Published: 06/10/2026 (06/10/2026, 07:50:56 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: smub
Product: aThemes Addons for Elementor

Description

The aThemes Addons for Elementor plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via 'title_tag' Widget Setting in all versions up to, and including, 1.1.8 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This affects the Posts Timeline widget as well as the Posts Carousel widget across its default, Banner, and Modern skins, all of which omit the whitelist validation that is correctly applied in the Posts List widget.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-8613 is a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the aThemes Addons for Elementor WordPress plugin, specifically in the 'title_tag' widget setting. The issue arises from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in all versions up to 1.1.8. Authenticated attackers with contributor or higher privileges can inject arbitrary scripts into pages using the Posts Timeline and Posts Carousel widgets, which lack the whitelist validation present in the Posts List widget. This vulnerability could lead to script execution in the context of users viewing the injected pages.

Potential Impact

An attacker with contributor-level access or higher can exploit this vulnerability to inject malicious JavaScript that executes in the browsers of users who visit the affected pages. This can lead to information disclosure or session hijacking. The CVSS score of 6.4 (medium severity) reflects the network attack vector, low attack complexity, and the requirement for privileges but no user interaction. There is no indication of availability impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict contributor-level access to trusted users only and consider disabling or avoiding use of the affected widgets (Posts Timeline and Posts Carousel) in the plugin. Monitor vendor channels for updates or patches addressing this vulnerability.
