Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Red Hat
Product: Fast Datapath for RHEL 10

Description

A flaw was found in DPDK lib/vhost. A guest with runt RX descriptors can underflow the copy length in vhost enqueue, causing a denial of service in a shared vhost backend such as OVS-DPDK.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves an integer underflow (wrap or wraparound) in the DPDK lib/vhost component used by Red Hat Fast Datapath for RHEL 10. When a guest sends runt RX descriptors, the copy length used in the vhost enqueue function can underflow, causing a denial of service condition in shared vhost backends like OVS-DPDK. The issue is classified as a medium severity denial of service vulnerability with no confidentiality or integrity impact. The vendor advisory URL is provided but does not include explicit patch or remediation details in the input data.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows a denial of service (DoS) in shared vhost backends such as OVS-DPDK by causing an integer underflow in the copy length during vhost enqueue operations. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity. The DoS could disrupt network packet processing in affected environments.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-86566 for current remediation guidance. No explicit patch or workaround information is provided in the available data.
