Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-86710 describes an improper authentication vulnerability (CWE-287) in the Login with QR WordPress plugin through version 1.0.0. The plugin does not verify that the QR code used to authenticate a user was legitimately issued by it. Instead, it accepts any code matching stored user metadata, enabling attackers without authentication to log in as arbitrary users, including those with administrative privileges.

Potential Impact

An attacker can bypass authentication controls and gain unauthorized access to any user account, including administrator accounts. This could lead to full site compromise, data exposure, and unauthorized administrative actions.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix is currently documented. Users should monitor the vendor advisory for updates. Until a fix is available, consider disabling the Login with QR plugin or restricting its use to trusted environments to prevent exploitation.
