Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-86787 is a code injection vulnerability (CWE-94) in the affiliate-toolkit WordPress plugin before version 3.9.1. The plugin does not properly restrict low-privileged users, such as those with the Contributor role, from submitting template content that the bundled templating engine compiles and executes as PHP. This enables these users to execute arbitrary PHP code on the server, potentially compromising the system.

Potential Impact

An attacker with Contributor or higher privileges can execute arbitrary PHP code on the server hosting the WordPress site. This can lead to full server compromise, data theft, or site defacement depending on the attacker's intent and environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the affiliate-toolkit plugin to version 3.9.1 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation guidance is provided. Patch status is not explicitly stated but the affected versions are prior to 3.9.1, indicating that 3.9.1 contains the fix.
