Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-86799 is a stored Cross-Site Scripting (CWE-79) vulnerability affecting the Forms WordPress plugin versions prior to 3.0.2. The flaw arises because the plugin does not sanitize input data on storage nor escape it on output in the admin interface, enabling unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts. These scripts execute in the context of any administrator who views the affected form submissions, potentially leading to session hijacking or other script-based attacks.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can inject arbitrary JavaScript that executes in the browser of an administrator viewing form submissions. This can lead to administrative session compromise or other malicious actions performed with administrator privileges. The vulnerability affects the confidentiality and integrity of the administrative interface.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the Forms WordPress plugin to version 3.0.2 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is required once the plugin is updated.
