CVE-2026-87683: CWE-121: Stack-based Buffer Overflow in Brocade Fabric OS
Description
CVE-2026-87683 is a high-severity stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the REST API management component of Brocade Fabric OS versions prior to 10.0.1. It occurs due to improper validation of array counts and string lengths in API request payloads, allowing an authenticated attacker with REST API access to send crafted oversized parameters. Exploitation can lead to denial-of-service via daemon crashes or potentially arbitrary code execution within the management process.

Technical Analysis
Multiple stack-based buffer overflow vulnerabilities exist in the REST API management component of Brocade Fabric OS versions prior to 10.0.1. The REST API service does not properly validate incoming array counts and string lengths against internal buffer capacities when processing API request payloads such as device configuration attributes or port mapping requests. An authenticated attacker with REST API access can send crafted, oversized request parameters to cause memory corruption on the execution stack, potentially resulting in daemon crashes or arbitrary code execution within the management process context.
Potential Impact
An attacker with authenticated REST API access can exploit these vulnerabilities to cause denial-of-service conditions by crashing the management daemon or potentially execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the management process. This could compromise the integrity and availability of the affected Brocade Fabric OS device.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in Brocade Fabric OS version 10.0.1 and later. Users should upgrade to version 10.0.1 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation guidance is provided.
