Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: AWS
Product: AWS Labs postgres MCP Server

Description

CVE-2026-87911 is a critical OS command injection vulnerability in the AWS Labs postgres MCP Server before version 1.1.7. It allows an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary operating system commands on the host of a self-managed PostgreSQL server by exploiting the SQL validation component's read-only enforcement via a crafted COPY ... TO PROGRAM statement. The vulnerability affects the default read-only mode when an authenticated user interacts with the MCP server. AWS manages remediation for this cloud-hosted service. Users should upgrade to version 1.1.7 or later to address this issue.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CVE-2026-87911) involves improper neutralization of special elements used in an OS command (CWE-78) within the SQL validation component of the AWS Labs postgres MCP Server. Specifically, before version 1.1.7, an unauthenticated actor can inject OS commands by placing a crafted COPY ... TO PROGRAM SQL statement into content processed during authenticated user interactions in the default read-only mode. This can lead to execution of arbitrary OS commands on the host running the self-managed PostgreSQL server. AWS provides a patch in version 1.1.7 to remediate this issue.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary operating system commands on the host of the self-managed PostgreSQL server, potentially leading to full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 9.6 (critical), reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges required, user interaction required, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

AWS manages remediation for this cloud-hosted service. Users should upgrade to AWS Labs postgres MCP Server version 1.1.7 or later to remediate this vulnerability. Refer to the official AWS security bulletin at https://aws.amazon.com/security/security-bulletins/2026-104-aws/ for detailed guidance and confirmation of patch availability.
