What to do

AI-suggested

Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted or specially crafted Code 128 barcode inputs in environments where UBSan trap mode is enabled to prevent denial of service.

Description

CVE-2026-88371 is an undefined-behavior vulnerability in the ZBar library's Code 128 barcode decoding function decode6(). When processing specially crafted input, the function can perform an invalid left-shift operation on a negative signed value, causing undefined behavior that may terminate programs built with UBSan in trap mode, resulting in denial of service.
