Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-89001 is an improper privilege management vulnerability (CWE-269) in the WPeMatico RSS Feed Fetcher WordPress plugin prior to version 2.8.27. The plugin fails to verify whether a user initiating a feed campaign has the necessary permissions to publish content or attribute posts to other users. As a result, users with contributor-level access or above can publish posts immediately and set any registered user, including administrators, as the post author.

Potential Impact

An attacker with contributor-level access or higher can publish unauthorized content live on the WordPress site and impersonate other users by assigning posts to them, including administrators. This can lead to content integrity issues and potential abuse of administrative identity, undermining trust and site security.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fixed version 2.8.27 or later should be applied once available. Since no patch links or vendor advisory are provided, patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until then, restrict contributor-level access and above to trusted users only.
