Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-89193 is a stored Cross-Site Scripting (CWE-79) vulnerability in the Robin Image Optimizer WordPress plugin prior to version 2.0.8. The vulnerability arises from improper escaping of values by the plugin's bundled HTML parser when a non-default image delivery mode is enabled. This allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts that execute in the context of any user viewing the affected page, potentially leading to session hijacking, privilege escalation, or other script-based attacks.

Potential Impact

Unauthenticated attackers can inject and store malicious scripts that execute in the browsers of any users who visit affected pages, including administrators. This can lead to unauthorized actions performed with the privileges of the victim user, potentially compromising site integrity and user data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the Robin Image Optimizer plugin to version 2.0.8 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
