AI-suggested
A fix is available that adds validation to ensure directory-index entry counts do not exceed block capacity, rejecting corrupted metadata before out-of-bounds reads occur. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this patch. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. No alternative mitigations are indicated.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ocfs2 filesystem code allows an out-of-bounds read from a slab memory area. This occurs because the directory-index entry counts are not properly validated against the block capacity, enabling a crafted on-disk image to cause reads beyond the intended metadata block. The issue affects certain Linux kernel versions and was fixed by adding validation checks to reject corrupted metadata before it is processed.
