AI-suggested

A fix is available that adds validation checks in the OCFS2 refcount block validator to reject malformed refcount blocks with invalid 'rl_used' or 'rl_count' values. Systems should apply the official Linux kernel patches that include this validation. Until patched, avoid mounting untrusted or corrupted OCFS2 images and restrict raw block device access to trusted users. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's OCFS2 filesystem refcount block validation allows a crafted or corrupted refcount block with an invalid 'rl_used' value to cause out-of-bounds memory access. This occurs because the kernel did not validate 'rl_used' against the fixed capacity 'rl_count' before processing the refcount records, leading to potential memory corruption during reflink operations. The issue affects local users with CAP_SYS_ADMIN privileges mounting a crafted or corrupted OCFS2 image or performing raw writes to the underlying block device. The vulnerability has been resolved by adding validation checks to reject refcount blocks where 'rl_count' does not match the expected capacity or 'rl_used' exceeds 'rl_count'.
