AI-suggested
A fix is available that adds proper bounds checking on the namelen, lockname_len, and num_locks fields in the ocfs2 DLM message handlers. Applying the official patches that bound these fields will prevent the vulnerability. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, updating to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. There is no indication that any temporary workaround is available or necessary.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ocfs2 distributed lock manager (DLM) allows a node in a DLM domain to send malformed messages that cause heap out-of-bounds writes and out-of-bounds reads, potentially leading to memory corruption or kernel panic. The issue arises because certain message length fields are not properly bounded before being used in memory copy operations. This affects nodes that are already members of the cluster and can be exploited by malicious or compromised nodes within the domain. The vulnerability has been resolved by patches that add proper bounds checking on these length fields.
