A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel by rejecting malformed tag 70 packets before processing. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is not a cloud service, remediation requires updating affected Linux kernel versions.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's eCryptfs implementation allows malformed tag 70 packets with too-small bodies to cause an underflow in the encrypted filename size calculation. This occurs because the function ecryptfs_parse_tag_70_packet subtracts fixed metadata fields from the packet body size without verifying the body is large enough. The issue has been resolved by rejecting tag 70 packets that do not contain the required signature, cipher code, and at least one byte of encrypted filename data before performing the subtraction.
