AI-suggested

This vulnerability has been fixed in Linux kernel version 6.6.157 and later. Users should update to version 6.6.157 or newer to remediate this issue. No additional mitigation steps are required as the fix is available.

Description

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's HID driver for the mcp2221 device was addressed by ensuring device IO is stopped before hardware teardown during probe failure or device removal. The fix involves quiescing device IO at the start of the cleanup callback to prevent race conditions with incoming HID reports. Additional guarding prevents spurious warnings during normal device removal.
