AI-suggested
A fix is available that rejects tree connect responses with byte counts smaller than two bytes, preventing the buffer over-read. Users should apply the official Linux kernel patches that address this issue. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, updating to a fixed kernel version is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SMB client was resolved that involved improper handling of tree connect responses with an abnormally small byte count. The flaw allowed a negative integer to be converted to a large size_t value, causing a buffer over-read beyond the allocated slab object. This could lead to information leakage through the /proc/fs/cifs/DebugData interface. The fix rejects responses with byte counts smaller than the minimum required two bytes.
