A fix is available that modifies the iteration logic in __kick_flushing_caps() to prevent use-after-free by saving the next pointer before releasing the lock. Users should apply the official kernel patches or update to fixed kernel versions. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, upgrading the Linux kernel to a patched version is the recommended remediation.
Description
A use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Ceph filesystem component was fixed. The flaw occurs in the __kick_flushing_caps() function when iterating over a list of capability flush entries. A race condition allows a capability flush entry to be freed by another thread during iteration, leading to dereferencing freed memory. The issue is resolved by changing the iteration to save the next pointer before releasing the lock, preventing access to freed memory.
