AI-suggested
A fix is available that rejects out-of-range useconds values in the NFSv2 sattr decoder and correctly applies the Sun convention for current server time. Users should update to a Linux kernel version that includes this patch. Since this is a kernel-level fix, applying the official kernel update from the vendor or distribution is the recommended remediation. Patch status is not explicitly stated in the input data, so check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NFSv2 implementation allowed out-of-range microsecond values in SETATTR/CREATE operations to be incorrectly processed, causing time value corruption. The issue arises from improper handling of useconds values greater than 1,000,000, which can wrap around on 32-bit systems and bypass range checks. The fix rejects out-of-range useconds before conversion and applies the Sun convention correctly for setting current server time. This resolves the decoding error and prevents malformed time arguments from reaching the filesystem.
