AI-suggested
A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel by adding validation checks on the symlink target length in nfsd4_decode_create(). Systems should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is a kernel-level vulnerability, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NFSv4 server (nfsd) allows a client to cause excessive memory allocation by sending a symlink target with an unbounded length during CREATE operations. The issue arises because nfsd4_decode_create() accepts an unbounded cr_datalen for symlink targets, leading to a potentially large kmalloc allocation that persists until the compound operation completes. Although the VFS layer rejects oversized targets, the allocation occurs before this check. The flaw has been resolved by validating cr_datalen to reject zero-length and overly long symlink targets early.
