A patch resolving this vulnerability has been applied in the Linux kernel. Users should update to fixed kernel versions that include this patch. Since this is a kernel-level issue, applying the official kernel updates from the vendor or distribution is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigations are specified or required beyond applying the patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's memory management subsystem involving handling of non-present PMDs (Page Middle Directories) when queueing folios has been resolved. The issue arises when an HMM-based GPU driver migrates an anonymous Transparent Huge Page (THP) folio to device memory, leaving a device-private PMD. This can cause kernel crashes or incorrect memory isolation due to improper handling of these PMDs during memory policy operations such as mbind(), migrate_pages(), or set_mempolicy_home_node().
