AI-suggested
A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to properly check resident attribute sizes using resident_data_ex() and abort if the attribute is too small. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this patch. Since this is a kernel-level fix, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigations are indicated.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NTFS3 filesystem driver allows an out-of-bounds read of the INDEX_ROOT attribute during mounting of a crafted NTFS image. This occurs because the code does not properly verify the size of resident attributes before accessing certain fields, leading to a read beyond allocated memory. Exploitation requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN privileges and occurs only during mount operations of maliciously crafted images.
