A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel. Users should apply the official kernel updates that address this issue. Since this is not a cloud service, remediation depends on applying the vendor-provided kernel patches. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the input data; users should consult the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's f2fs filesystem allows a NULL pointer dereference when the checkpoint_merge feature is enabled via sysfs, even if no checkpoint merge thread is running. This can occur during read-only mounts where the checkpoint thread is not started but its ioprio value remains writable. The flaw involves unsafe updates to the checkpoint thread's I/O priority, leading to a NULL task pointer dereference. The issue has been resolved by protecting sysfs writes to the checkpoint thread's ioprio with additional checks to prevent the thread from disappearing during updates.
