AI-suggested
A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to limit recovery filename logging to the stored length, preventing out-of-bounds reads. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this patch. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, upgrading to a fixed kernel version is the recommended mitigation. No alternative workarounds are indicated.
Description
CVE-2026-89838 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's F2FS filesystem recovery logging. The issue arises because recovery filenames are stored as a length plus a fixed-size buffer that is not NUL-terminated, but the kernel prints these filenames using %s, which can read beyond the intended buffer. This can lead to information disclosure by reading raw inode fields beyond the filename buffer during recovery logging.
