A fix is available that corrects the mutex unlocking order in the buffer release function. Users should apply the official Linux kernel patches that address this issue in the affected versions. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability was fixed in the Linux kernel's Industrial I/O (IIO) subsystem related to anonymous buffer release. The issue occurs when the buffer handle releases the last reference to an IIO device after the device has been removed, potentially causing a mutex to be unlocked after the buffer and device have been freed. This can lead to memory corruption and system instability. The fix ensures the mutex is unlocked before releasing the device reference to prevent use-after-free.
