AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include the patch for CVE-2026-89952. Since this is a kernel-level vulnerability, updating to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigation steps are indicated.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mtd: rawnand driver was resolved involving improper validation of ONFI extended parameter page sections. The function nand_flash_detect_ext_param_page() allocated memory based on the declared length but did not verify that the fixed header and each variable-length section fit within the allocated buffer before accessing them. This could lead to improper handling of malformed ONFI parameter pages. The fix includes rejecting pages shorter than the fixed header, tracking the remaining variable area while parsing sections, and requiring the ECC section to contain all expected fields. Device-scoped diagnostics were also added to identify malformed ONFI sections.
