A fix is available that corrects the merging logic in the __merge_memory_ranges() function to prevent memory range truncation. Users should apply the official kernel updates that address this issue. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the provided data; therefore, check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's powerpc/kexec_file component causes incorrect handling of overlapping memory ranges during merging. The flawed logic leads to critical memory truncation when a larger memory range subsumes smaller ones, resulting in loss of valid memory fragments from kexec exclude lists. This can cause the crash kernel to overwrite active memory, potentially leading to data corruption or system crashes. The issue has been resolved by correcting the comparison logic and ensuring the outer boundary is not truncated.
