A fix is available that rejects arenas with nfree below the lane count during discovery, preventing out-of-bounds writes. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this patch. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, updating to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's nvdimm/btt subsystem allows an out-of-bounds write due to improper validation of the nfree field in the BTT info block. This occurs when an arena's nfree value is below the lane count, causing per-lane arrays to be indexed beyond their allocated size. The issue has been resolved by rejecting arenas with nfree below the number of lanes at discovery.
