AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel source code to address this vulnerability. Users should update their Linux kernel to a version that includes this patch. Since this is a kernel-level issue, applying the official kernel update is the recommended remediation.

Description

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's usb storage driver for Realtek chips (realtek_cr) has been fixed. The issue occurs because the timer callback may still run and rearm itself after the chip is freed on disconnect, leading to use-after-free. The fix involves using timer_shutdown_sync() to wait for the callback to finish and prevent rearming, and initializing the timer earlier to avoid failure paths invoking the destructor prematurely. This vulnerability was found by static analysis and has been resolved.
