A fix is available that clamps the MTU and quantum values in the fq_codel scheduler to safe ranges, preventing the overflow and infinite loop. Users should apply the official kernel updates that address this issue. Since this vulnerability requires CAP_NET_ADMIN privileges, limiting such privileges also reduces risk.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's fq_codel network scheduler allows an attacker with CAP_NET_ADMIN privileges in a user namespace to cause an infinite loop and soft lockup. This occurs due to an integer overflow when a device has a very large MTU, leading to disabling of CoDel packet dropping and ECN marking. The issue has been resolved by clamping the MTU and quantum values to safe ranges.
