AI-suggested
A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel by adjusting the position reading logic in fuse_direct_write_iter() to correctly invalidate the written range after O_APPEND direct writes. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is a kernel-level issue, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the provided data; check the vendor or distribution advisory for the exact fixed versions and update accordingly.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's fuse direct write implementation causes incorrect invalidation of file data ranges after O_APPEND writes. This leads to potential data inconsistency when file sizes are not page-aligned, as stale data may be read by concurrent readers. The issue is due to capturing the file position before it is updated to EOF, resulting in invalidation of a stale range rather than the actual written range.
