A fix has been implemented that adds GFP_KERNEL_ACCOUNT to the relevant memory allocations and corrects error handling paths to prevent dangling pointers. Users should apply the official kernel patches that address this issue. Since this is a kernel-level vulnerability, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. Patch status is not explicitly stated in the input data; therefore, check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's traffic control (tc) classifier filter allocations allowed unprivileged users to pin kernel memory outside of memory control group (memcg) accounting. This was due to allocations using GFP_KERNEL without __GFP_ACCOUNT, which bypassed memcg memory charging. The issue affected multiple classifiers and could lead to kernel memory being pinned without proper accounting, potentially exhausting system memory resources. The flaw was fixed by adding GFP_KERNEL_ACCOUNT to relevant allocations and correcting error handling paths to prevent dangling pointers.
