AI-suggested
A fix is available and has been applied to the affected Linux kernel versions by adding proper bounds checking in the hp-bioscfg password encoding parser. Users should update to patched kernel versions to remediate this vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's platform/x86 hp-bioscfg component allows an out-of-bounds read due to improper bounds checking when parsing password encoding data from ACPI packages. This can lead to passing an out-of-bounds string pointer and length to a conversion function. The issue has been resolved by adding proper bounds checks.
