AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented to address this vulnerability by modifying the lock handling logic in ksmbd. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this patch to remediate the issue. Since this is a kernel-level fix, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended mitigation.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ksmbd component related to deferred lock handling has been resolved. The issue occurs when vfs_lock_file() defers a lock and smb2_lock() places its ksmbd_lock on a rollback list before asynchronous work is allocated and registered. If these operations fail, the rollback process dereferences a NULL pointer, and the deferred file lock remains linked in the VFS blocked-lock state while being freed. The fix ensures the lock is kept off the rollback list until asynchronous setup succeeds and explicitly unblocks and wakes the deferred lock on setup failure before freeing it.
