A fix is available that disallows the use of bpf_setsockopt() and bpf_getsockopt() for the BPF_CGROUP_UNIX_GETPEERNAME and BPF_CGROUP_UNIX_GETSOCKNAME hooks. Users should apply the updated Linux kernel versions that include this resolution. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel related to BPF programs attached to cgroup UNIX getname hooks has been resolved. The issue arises because the bpf_setsockopt() and bpf_getsockopt() helpers expect the socket lock to be held, but BPF_CGROUP_UNIX_GETPEERNAME and BPF_CGROUP_UNIX_GETSOCKNAME run BPF programs without acquiring this lock. This mismatch can trigger warnings and potentially lead to improper behavior. The fix disallows the use of bpf_setsockopt() and bpf_getsockopt() for these specific cgroup hooks.
