A fix is available that changes the order of releasing child sockets to occur after the listener's cm_id is destroyed and its handler lock is released. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, upgrading to patched kernel versions is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SMB Direct (smbdirect) subsystem was resolved. The issue involves releasing pending child sockets while holding the listener's handler lock, leading to a use-after-free condition detected by KASAN during listener shutdown. Additionally, the locking order causes a lockdep warning about possible recursive locking, which disables lockdep and may hide real locking bugs. The fix defers releasing child sockets until after the listener's cm_id is destroyed and its handler lock is dropped, preventing the use-after-free and recursive locking warnings.
