A fix has been implemented that rejects any getsockopt calls with optlen less than 4 bytes and adds checks for negative optlen values. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, updating to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel NFC subsystem (llcp) could cause a userspace buffer overflow due to improper handling of the optlen parameter in the nfc_llcp_getsockopt() function. The kernel incorrectly writes 4 bytes regardless of the caller-supplied optlen, potentially writing past the user buffer when optlen is less than 4. This violates the getsockopt(2) contract for all five supported optnames. The issue is fixed by rejecting calls with optlen less than 4 and adding checks for negative optlen values.
