A fix is available that adds validation to reject Bluetooth MSFT responses where the declared evt_prefix_len exceeds the actual response length. Systems should apply the official kernel patches that address this validation issue. No additional mitigation is required once the patch is applied.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Bluetooth MSFT component allows an attacker controlling the Bluetooth controller to specify an excessively large event prefix length (evt_prefix_len) that is not properly validated against the actual response length. This causes the kernel to copy up to 255 bytes from beyond the end of the legitimate response data, reading uninitialized memory. The flaw does not cause out-of-bounds access or memory corruption but results in reading unintended data. The issue has been fixed by adding validation to reject responses where the declared prefix length exceeds the actual response length.
