AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel by making the wait for ordered extents unconditional during buffered writes. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix. No additional mitigation steps are indicated.

Description

CVE-2026-90264 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's btrfs filesystem where a race condition involving ordered extents (OEs) can cause kernel panic due to overlapping extents. This occurs because the kernel does not always wait for existing ordered extents to complete before inserting new ones, particularly when direct IO operations finish short and revert the file size (isize). The issue has been fixed by making the wait for ordered extents unconditional during buffered writes.
