AI-suggested
A fix is available that properly validates external xattr entries in OCFS2 before they are used by higher-level functions. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that address this issue. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigations are specified by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's OCFS2 filesystem code related to external extended attribute (xattr) entries has been resolved. The flaw involved insufficient validation of xattr block headers and entry offsets, potentially allowing out-of-bounds access during metadata reads. This could lead to use-after-free conditions and memory corruption when listing or getting extended attributes. The issue was identified and fixed by adding proper validation of non-indexed and indexed external xattr blocks before they are processed by higher-level functions.
