A fix is available that replaces the forgeable discard filler with a keyed sector marker using a keyed checksum. Users should upgrade to patched versions of the linux-hwe-edge kernel that include this fix. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, applying the official kernel updates from the vendor is the recommended remediation.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's dm-integrity module allowed an attacker with raw write access to the backing device to forge discarded blocks by using a specific discard filler tag, bypassing HMAC verification. This issue was resolved by replacing the forgeable discard filler with a keyed sector marker that uses a keyed checksum. The vulnerability affects certain versions of the linux-hwe-edge kernel and has a medium severity rating.
