A fix is available that properly releases the socket buffer when tx_prepare_skb() fails. Users should update to patched versions of the Linux kernel that include this fix. Specific affected versions are listed, and upgrading beyond these versions or applying vendor-provided patches will mitigate the issue.

Description

A memory leak vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mt76 wifi driver (mt792x) SDIO TX path has been fixed. The issue occurs when tx_prepare_skb() returns an error and the socket buffer (skb) is not freed, leading to a memory leak. This can happen when zero-length frames, such as WNM NULL frames, are dropped to avoid hardware transmission hangs. The fix ensures proper release of the skb using ieee80211_tx_status_ext() when tx_prepare_skb() fails.
