Technical Analysis

This vulnerability exists in the New Nmap Scan Handler component of SabyasachiRana WebMap, specifically in the nmap_newscan function within functions_nmap.py. Improper handling of the target/params argument enables an attacker to inject arbitrary OS commands remotely. The vulnerability was fixed by a silent patch identified by commit 3d52f65803a2716bff14d938352c6fef45b0cfb6. The CVSS 4.0 vector indicates network attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges or user interaction required, with low to limited confidentiality, integrity, availability, scope, and impact metrics.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands on the affected system, potentially compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability to a limited degree. The vulnerability is exploitable remotely without authentication or user interaction, increasing its risk. However, the impact is rated medium due to limited scope and impact metrics.

Mitigation Recommendations

A silent patch identified by commit 3d52f65803a2716bff14d938352c6fef45b0cfb6 has been applied to remediate this issue. Users should ensure that this patch or a later version is applied to their WebMap installation to mitigate the vulnerability.
