Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-90884 is a stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability in the WP Recipe Maker WordPress plugin (brechtvds) affecting all versions up to 10.8.1. The flaw exists due to improper neutralization of input in the 'notes' parameter, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level privileges or above to inject arbitrary web scripts. These scripts execute in the context of users who access the injected pages, potentially leading to session hijacking or other script-based attacks. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 5.4 (medium severity) with vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, indicating network attack vector, low attack complexity, requiring privileges and user interaction, with partial impact on confidentiality and integrity but no impact on availability.

Potential Impact

An attacker with Contributor-level or higher privileges can inject persistent malicious scripts via the 'notes' parameter. These scripts execute in the browsers of users viewing the affected pages, potentially exposing sensitive information or enabling further attacks. The vulnerability impacts confidentiality and integrity but does not affect availability. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict Contributor-level access to trusted users only and consider disabling or limiting usage of the 'notes' parameter if possible. Monitor vendor channels for updates and apply patches promptly once released.
