Technical Analysis

Apache Answer versions through 2.0.2 contain a missing authentication vulnerability (CWE-306) in the reaction API. The API did not enforce content visibility controls, enabling unauthorized users to access reaction metadata on restricted content and manipulate reactions without proper authorization. This vulnerability is addressed by upgrading to version 2.0.3.

Potential Impact

Unauthorized users can bypass authentication controls to read metadata associated with reactions on restricted content and modify reactions by adding or removing them. This could lead to unauthorized disclosure of metadata and unauthorized modification of reaction data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache Answer to version 2.0.3, which contains the fix for this vulnerability. No other mitigation steps are indicated.
