Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-90941 describes an authorization bypass vulnerability in novel-plus through version 5.3.3. The flaw exists in the BookController download endpoint, allowing authenticated backend accounts to export complete book text, including paid chapters, by supplying a bookId and bookName. This bypass circumvents permission checks and data-scope limits that are otherwise enforced in the admin interface, enabling unauthorized access to paid content.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows authenticated backend users to access and export paid book chapters without proper authorization. This could lead to unauthorized disclosure of paid content, potentially impacting revenue and content control. The CVSS score of 4.3 (medium severity) reflects limited impact on confidentiality with no integrity or availability impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict backend account access to trusted users only and monitor for unauthorized export activity related to book content.
