CVE-2026-91078: CWE-287 Improper Authentication in TillKit

Published: 10/03/2026 (10/03/2026, 06:31:13 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Product: TillKit

Description

The TillKit WordPress plugin before 1.0.5 does not require the hard-coded, publicly known PIN of the privileged POS account it creates on activation to be changed before use, and it authenticates its public POS login endpoint on that PIN alone with no identity or capability check, allowing unauthenticated attackers to obtain a privileged POS session and thereby read customer and site-user personal data and modify store data.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-91078 describes an improper authentication vulnerability (CWE-287) in the TillKit WordPress plugin prior to version 1.0.5. The plugin creates a privileged POS account on activation with a hard-coded PIN that is publicly known and does not enforce changing this PIN before use. The POS login endpoint authenticates solely based on this PIN without verifying identity or capabilities, allowing unauthenticated attackers to obtain privileged sessions. This can lead to unauthorized access to sensitive customer and site-user data and unauthorized modification of store data.

Potential Impact

Unauthenticated attackers can gain privileged POS sessions by exploiting the hard-coded PIN authentication flaw. This enables them to read sensitive personal data of customers and site users and modify store-related data, potentially leading to data breaches and unauthorized changes to store operations.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the TillKit plugin to version 1.0.5 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. Until then, ensure the hard-coded PIN is changed immediately after activation to prevent unauthorized access. No official patch link was provided, but upgrading to 1.0.5 or later is the recommended remediation.
