Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-91092 is an authorization bypass vulnerability (CWE-862) in the wpForo Forum WordPress plugin. The plugin fails to properly verify user authorization for certain actions, enabling authenticated attackers with subscriber-level privileges or above to take over and modify guest author posts. The vulnerability affects all versions from initial release through 3.1.5. Exploitation requires guest posting and editing to be enabled and knowledge of the guest author's email address.

Potential Impact

An attacker with subscriber-level access can modify guest author posts, changing the post's title, body, author name, and stored owner email address. This could lead to unauthorized content alteration and potential misinformation within the forum. There is no indication of confidentiality or availability impact. No known exploits are reported in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or fix is currently available. Users should verify the vendor advisory for updates. Until a fix is released, consider disabling guest posting and editing features to mitigate the risk. Restrict subscriber-level user privileges where possible to reduce exposure.
