AI-suggested

Red Hat advises securing the environment where the openshift-ansible installer container runs against network Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) attacks. When using the INVENTORY_URL or DYNAMIC_SCRIPT_URL environment variables, always use HTTPS URLs pointing to trusted servers and verify server certificates. If possible, avoid using remote inventory scripts and provide local inventory files to the installer instead.

Description

CVE-2026-92092 is a vulnerability in the openshift-ansible installer container of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4. The installer downloads and executes remote inventory and dynamic scripts without verifying their integrity. This allows a remote attacker with network MITM capabilities or control over the HTTP server hosting these scripts to substitute malicious executables. Such executables run with the installer's user ID and full cluster-provisioning privileges, enabling arbitrary code execution. The risk is limited to environments that use remote inventory sources via environment variables and is mitigated by securing network communications and using HTTPS with certificate verification.
