Vendor/Project: Meta Platforms, Inc
Product: Meta Horizon OS

Description

CVE-2026-92173 is a vulnerability in Meta Horizon OS prior to version 74.0.0.878.1682. It involves improper restriction of communication channels, allowing an attacker to induce MediaSyncJobReceiver to send a privileged PendingIntent with a com.oculus.vrshell CallerIdentity to an arbitrary application. This enables the application to impersonate the com.oculus.vrshell package and other packages signed with the same key within the OS.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability CVE-2026-92173 affects Meta Horizon OS versions before 74.0.0.878.1682. MediaSyncJobReceiver can be manipulated to send a privileged PendingIntent containing a CallerIdentity of com.oculus.vrshell to any application listening via NotificationListenerService. This flaw allows the receiving application to impersonate the com.oculus.vrshell package and any other packages signed with the same key, potentially bypassing CallerIdentity authentication mechanisms within the OS.

Potential Impact

An attacker controlling an arbitrary application that listens via NotificationListenerService can impersonate privileged system packages such as com.oculus.vrshell. This could lead to unauthorized actions or access within the OS where CallerIdentity authentication is used, undermining the integrity of inter-process communications and potentially enabling privilege escalation or unauthorized operations.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Meta Horizon OS version 74.0.0.878.1682 and later. Users and administrators should update to this version or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation guidance is provided by the vendor advisory.
