Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in GPAC 26.08-DEV involves an out-of-bounds read in the wait_for_header_and_parse function due to improper handling of the Content-Range argument. The flaw requires local access and can be exploited to read memory beyond intended bounds. The vulnerability has a CVSS 4.8 (medium) score and a public exploit exists. The issue is fixed by upgrading to version abi-16.26, as indicated by the patch identified by commit c74a3065038ede35c1c7b75fa493a69ef6bcdb84.

Potential Impact

An attacker with local access can exploit this vulnerability to perform an out-of-bounds read, potentially exposing sensitive memory contents. The impact is limited by the requirement for local access and the medium CVSS score. There is no indication of remote exploitation or privilege escalation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the affected GPAC component from version 26.08-DEV to version abi-16.26, which contains the official fix for this vulnerability. This upgrade is the recommended and effective remediation.
